En utmaning i omställningen till ett fossilfritt samhälle är det ökade behovet av el. Detta ökade behov måste lösas på ett hållbart vis. Ett sätt är att renovera befintliga vattenkraftverk. Strömma vattenkraftverk har genomgått en omfattande renovering med ny turbin och generator.

Eleverna får i uppgift att mäta elproduktionen i Strömmas helt nyrenoverade vattenkraftverk. Genom att mäta kraftverkets fallhöjd och vattenföring får de räkna fram hur många kW som levereras ut på elnätet. Utrustningen består av tumstock, klocka och glasspinnar. Det uppmätta värdet jämförs också med den faktiska produktionen. Mätningarnas tillförlitlighet, vattenkraftstationens verkningsgrad etc. diskuteras, liksom miljöpåverkan av vattenkraft och andra energislag.

Upplägget passar fysik- och teknikundervisningen för åk 7-9, men geografi, historia, biologi och matematik utgör också viktiga delar av innehållet.
